Privacy
OpenStudio keeps only what you put on a print or say in a wall’s chat, what you save, and what it needs to keep the site working. There is no sign-up, no email, no ads and no tracking across other sites or apps. Nothing is sold.
What you give it
- Your print: your first name, your words about what you make and what else you are into, where you are these days in your own words, up to three links, and a photo if you take one. Photos are re-drawn on your phone before they are sent, so they carry no location or camera details.
- What you say in a wall's chat: your messages, your replies, what you said you would show on the next night and whether you marked it shown, and the messages you cheered.
- Walls you make: the name, place and date you give them.
- Your web: the groups you name, the people you save into them, and the people you hide.
- Reports: when you report a print or a chat message, the site notes which one and when. It asks for no reason. A chat report also notes your print, so each person counts once; it goes when your print does.
Who sees it
- Your print is public on the walls you pin it to: anyone with a wall's address can see it, and so can search engines and other tools that read the web, which may show it in their results. The site lists its city walls and weekly rooms for them (like joinopen.studio/sf); a wall someone makes is not listed, though anyone it is shared with can link to it. Photos are kept out of image search. Pinning up on a room's wall also puts your print on that city's wall (for San Francisco, joinopen.studio/sf) unless you turn that off when you pin up.
- A wall's chat is public like the wall: anyone with its address can read it, under your print's name and photo. How many people cheered a message shows; who cheered does not.
- A wall's host can read the names, words and links of the people who pinned up there, and take a print off their wall or a message out of its chat.
- Your groups, saves and the people you hide are seen by you alone. Nobody is told when you save or hide them.
- OpenStudio's own desk can see everything on the site, to run it and to remove what should not be there.
What it keeps to work
- Keys in cookies: your phone holds keys that let it change your print, run the walls you host, and open your web. They are cookies the page cannot read, kept up to 400 days. The site never stores a key itself, only a fingerprint of it.
- Face ID or a passkey, if you choose: the site keeps the passkey's public half and a sealed copy of your keys. Your face or fingerprint never leaves your phone.
- A move code: when you ask for a six-digit code to move to another phone, it lasts ten minutes, then it is gone.
- How people use the page: an anonymous record of which views are opened, taps and searches, with no name, no address and none of the words you type. It is kept for 90 days.
- A log of changes: what changed and when (a print added, taken off, deleted), by print and wall number. To stop floods of new prints and reports, it notes a scrambled code made from your internet address, which cannot be turned back into the address.
- Matching: to suggest who you should meet, your words are turned into numbers by an AI model that runs on Cloudflare. The numbers stay on the site.
Cards and invitations
A host can write a card for someone they met: a first name, a few words and links to their public pages, with a private link the host passes on. It stays off every wall until that person pins it up, and is deleted after 14 days if they do not. A card the desk hangs on a wall as an invitation is marked "invited" and deletes itself after 30 days unless that person makes it theirs. The person can delete it at any time from its link. Contact details for cards are never kept on this site.
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare hosts the site, its database and its photos, runs the matching model, and counts visits without cookies.
- Google Fonts serves the handwriting font, so Google sees that a browser asked for it.
Both process data only to run their part of the site. Nobody else gets it.
Deleting
- Everything: Your web → Delete everything. It deletes your prints and their photos, what you said in chats, your groups, the people you hid and your passkey, and the walls only you are on, with their chats. A wall other people are on stays up for them, and you stop hosting it. If you kept things with Face ID, also remove the key in Passwords on your phone.
- One print: turn it over and press Take me down. What it said in chats goes with it.
- One message: in the chat, press Delete under it.
- Lost your phone? Write to hello@joinopen.studio with the wall and the name on the print, and the desk will take it down.
Deleted means gone from the site's database and photo store, at once. Search engines drop it the next time they read the wall. The log keeps a line saying a print was deleted, with its number and nothing else.
Children
OpenStudio is not meant for children under 13. If a child under 13 has put up a print, write to us and it will be deleted.
Changes and contact
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions, or a print that should not be up: hello@joinopen.studio.
